Happy Spring to you all,
What an exciting time this is for our chapter. We begin the month with an evening with Carole Weiss, VP General and then straight into preparing for our very first yard sale fundraiser. This month we also elect delegates to Continental Congress in June. Attending Congress is an amazing experience filled with incredible speakers, much pomp and circumstance and an overwhelming sense of pride in our country. Please consider being a delegate at some point in your DAR experience. It will not disappoint.
This spring and leading into the summer is going to be one of the best times of our DAR year. Please join the chapter in participating in as many of the events as you can.

246th Commemoration of the Battle of Moore’s Creek Bridge
Hosted by the North Carolina Society Sons of the American Revolution (NCSSAR).
The Wilmington Ladies Tea Walk took part in The 246th Commemoration of the Battle of Moore’s Creek Bridge on February 26, 2022 10:00 am in Currie, NC. Our chapter flag was carried proudly during the processional along with NCSSAR and DAR groups from North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky and Indiana. All took part in paying respects at the monument named in honor of Private John Grady, a native of Duplin County who was the only Patriot to die during the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge. It is the oldest monument in the national park, dating back to 1857. Our regent, Ann Moore, laid a beautiful wreath with red, white and blue ribbon at the monument. Congressman David Rouzer was the keynote speaker for the event.

Vice President General and Honorary North Carolina Honorary State Regent
Program: 257th anniversary of The Cape Fear Stamp Act Resistance
Honorary North Carolina State Regent Carole Weiss of Wilmington was elected vice president general to a term of three years on the national board of management of the DAR. She served as national vice chair DAR Scholarship for the Michael and Mary Cloyd Scholarship (2008-2013) and national vice chair of the property beautification & hospitality committee, state regents’ dinners (2018-2019). We are honored to have her speak at our March meeting.
The Wilmington Ladies Tea Walk Chapter is Having a Yard Sale Fund Raiser!
Please start collecting your items for our first ever yard sale. We hope this will be a huge fund-raising event and we need your donated items to make the sale a success!

Shop and Share with D.A.R. & Lilly Pullitzer!
Lilly Pulitzer and the Wilmington Ladies Tea Walk Chapter have partnered to bring you a Shop and Share day. For one day only, March 19, 2022, The Mayfaire Town Center store will donate a portion of it’s profits to help support the Crossnore School. For more than 100 years thte Crossnore School has provided a Christian sanctuary of hope and healing for children in need from North Carolina. It is spring and and new spring shipments are coming in, so it is a perfect time for the DAR ladies to come shop and support DAR schools.

The next social event will be in conjunction with Community Classroom and the chapter yard sale in May. There will be signups for both the day of the yard sale as well as a sorting, pricing and drop off day this month. Be on the lookout for signup emails coming soon!

While everyone is considering how to prepare their landscapes with the addition of new bulbs, seeds, bushes, or trees, please remember not to disturb the lawn too much just yet.
While everyone is considering how to prepare their landscapes with the addition of new bulbs, seeds, bushes, or trees, please remember not to disturb the lawn too much just yet. We still have pollinators hibernating and burrowed under ground or in lawn debris. Soon birds will be returning to the area and will start building nests, so please consider emptying your vacuum, brushing your dogs, and depositing dryer lint somewhere easily accessible for them to make their new nests soft, warm, and comfortable. Also, for those who wish to have hummingbirds visit their area, it is time to place your feeders with sugar water outside. Please do NOT purchase the red dye liquid sold in retail chains as this is poisonous to these little guys. Just dilute some sugar in plain water and remember to change it at least once per week to avoid it becoming inedible for them.

How to Properly Fold the Flag
The correct way to fold a flag depends on the specific flag you are folding. National flags demand much greater attention than other types of flags. Keep reading to learn how to properly fold the American flag.
- Two persons, facing each other, hold the flag waist high and horizontally between them.
- The lower striped section is folded, lengthwise, over the blue field. Hold bottom to op and edges together securely.
- Fold the flag again, lengthwise, folded edge to open edge.
- A triangular fold is started along the length of the flag, from the endo to the heading by bringing the striped corner of the folded edge to meet the open edge.
- The outer point is turned inward parallel with the open edge, forming a second triangle.
- Repeat the triangular folding until the entire length of the flag is folded.
- When the flag is completely folded only the triangular blue field should be visible.

The Cherokee Foods Past and Present, activity book was inspired by youth for youth in a Cherokee Nation partnership with Education Services, Language Department and Health Services. Cherokee Nation Public Health collaborated with the Cherokee Nation Tribal Youth Council to create a unique activity book featuring the Cherokee language. The activity book, is a combination of traditional Cherokee foods and ingredients used in both contemporary and traditional dishes.
