Chapter Highlights & Recent Events

Veteran’s Day Care Boxes

At the November meeting, we packed self-care boxes for the female veterans at Cape Fear Community College and wrote thank you cards to all veterans. Thanks to all the WLTW ladies who helped make this wonderful project happen!

Local DAR Members are the New Mayflower Colony

Governor and Vice Governor

Jacqueline LaMar is the new Governor and Suzanne Palmer the new Vice Governor of the Southeast Colony, Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of North Carolina. Jackie is a member of the Stamp Defiance Chapter, and Suzanne is a member of the Brunswick Town Chapter, NSDAR. They will schedule a meeting of members and prospective members of the Southeast Colony in late January 2023.

Any person, age 18 or older, able to document his/her lineal descent from one or more of the 51 Mayflower passengers known to have descendants is eligible to apply. The one-time application fee is $175 and annual dues are $50 per year.

An interesting aspect of membership in the Mayflower Society is that once proven, a parent or grandparent may pay a one-time Junior Membership Fee of $35 per child (birth to age 18). Junior Members pay no annual dues and are not considered full members of the Society for voting purposes at a membership meeting.

If you or a family member is interested in joining the Mayflower Society, please contact Jackie and Suzanne at [email protected] and [email protected]. They will provide you with the application form and help as necessary.

Continuing DAR Education

Keep up to date with your officer and committee roles and goals!  Below are some of the classes, workshops, and webinars to assist in learning more about our DAR organizations and positions.

State Chaplains Meeting

The NCSDAR Statewide Chaplain’s Group meeting will be held on Zoom on the first Tuesday of each month. The December meeting will be on December 6, with a social time from 6:30-7:00 pm, and the meeting from 7:00-8:00 pm. The Zoom invitation will be sent to all Chapter Chaplains and past State Chaplains. Past Chapter Chaplains are invited as well. Each meeting will have two parts: a prayer component and a topics component.
The December meeting will grant fellow chaplains across the state a chance to greet and be in prayer for each other, our active duty service members, their families, and our veterans, along with our freedom, Hanukkah and Christmas.
We will also review ways that we can support our members not only throughout the year but during the holiday season. In addition to other topics, we will read the Christmas Story together. Please come! It is always a treasure to pray and learn together.
